Secondary Care (Hospitals)

Multilex DDF Plus™
At the heart of electronic prescribing
More Information
Twenty years of development has led to Multilex DDF being used right across the healthcare community. First DataBank Europe has invested experience and resource to specifically develop Multilex DDF to meet the requirements of healthcare professionals within secondary care organisations.
The Medicines Solution for Hospitals
Multilex DDF contains a vast amount of valuable pharmaceutical information and is designed to reduce the occurrence of prescribing and dispensing errors protecting both the patient and the clinician. When integrated into hospital systems, Multilex DDF carries out the following checks:
  • drug-drug interactions
  • allergy or sensitivity alerts
  • contraindications
  • drug or therapeutic doubling
  • precautions and warnings
Messages and alerts can be filtered according to the patient’s age, sex and medical condition, including pregnancy, lactation, hepatic and renal conditions.
Backup throughout the Hospital
Multilex DDF can support the hospital environment in a variety of critical areas.
  • drives electronic prescribing systems, supporting the prescriber’s drug selection with patient specific clinical checking
  • assists pharmacists in meeting their clinical governance targets through medicines management
  • supports nurses as they administer medicines
  • drives pharmacy dispensing, stock control systems and supports robotic dispensing
  • links the prescribing process to the pharmacy
  • provides core commercial information to support the production of management and financial reports
Product Set
The new Product Set model has been developed specifically to support the flexible drug selection methods practiced by healthcare professionals within a secondary care environment. It allows ‘natural’ prescribing without the need to prescribe by specific product entity.
Professional Quality
First DataBank Europe has a large team of pharmacists, clinical researchers and software developers that maintain and support Multilex DDF and related software. The company operates a Quality Management System that is certified to ISO 9001:2000. Audited editorial policies are strictly followed to ensure that all clinical data is professionally processed prior to release.
Further clinical checking processes provided by Multilex DDF may be tailored to the individual patient, based on their medical history. This protects healthcare professionals from information overload and unwanted messaging alerts. More importantly, it protects patients from prescribing errors.
Comprehensive Content
Multilex DDF holds information on more than 50,000 product and pack records including:
  • generic medicinal products
  • all branded prescription medicines
  • diagnostic and monitoring agents
  • Pharmacy + General Sales List medicines
  • supplementary and specialist dietary foods
  • appliances included in the Drug Tariff
  • homeopathic remedies
  • other NHS prescribable products
Reliable Data
The data within Multilex DDF can be viewed in different ways, as short messages and alerts for active checking within clinical systems or as Multilex Monographs for more detailed reference.
