With more than 670 million prescriptions generated each year in primary care, there is huge potential for medication error.
To support GPs with their prescribing decisions and minimise the occurrence of medication errors, the Multilex Drug Data File (Multilex DDF) is a core component of the majority of leading GP clinical systems in the UK. It offers a wealth of benefits to GPs and Primary Care Organisations:
• Enables safer prescribing through active clinical decision support alerts including drug interactions, allergies, duplicate therapy and a dose range check.
• Supports cost-effective prescribing by providing information on brands and their generic equivalents plus pricing details.
• Acts as a vital electronic referential source when detailed information on a specific medicine is required.
• Through the integration of standard terminologies such as the NHS Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d), Multilex DDF supports recent and future requirements around interoperability and the transfer of information, such as GP2GP and EPS messaging.
• Assists Primary Care Organisations with the collation and analysis of prescribing data, helping to ensure that NSF guidelines are met.
• Supports the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) through the provision of drug warnings to help clinicians manage patients taking certain medications.
