FDB’s market share in Hong Kong’s hospital sector increases to over 70% following the announcement of two new contract wins with private hospitals.
Union Hospital and St Paul’s Hospital have selected FDB’s clinical decision support and drug database for use in electronic prescribing and dispensing, as part of hospital-wide moves to enhance medication safety.
FDB’s drug information is already in use by the country’s public healthcare provider, the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. The use of the same drug database and clinical decision support within the private hospital sector in Hong Kong further reduces the risk of medication errors by providing consistency in drug terminology across the region’s healthcare settings.
Dr. Anthony Lee, Chief Hospital Manager & Medical Director, Union Hospital says: “We selected First DataBank for its regional expertise, service, comprehensive drug information and patient safety focus.”
Mr. Samuel Cheung, General Manager, St. Paul’s Hospital, comments on the partnership: “As part of our patient safety initiative at St. Paul’s Hospital it was clear that we needed to provide better tools to help our clinicians to prescribe and dispense more safely. The extraordinary detail in the database benefits clinicians by providing relevant and useful messages.”
David Flavell, President, First DataBank International, adds: “The use of FDB’s products within the majority of Hong Kong’s hospitals, across both private and public sectors, will help clinicians provide better care for patients moving between services. FDB looks forward to supporting Union and St. Paul’s Hospitals in their drive to improve patient safety.”
