First DataBank announces new international partnerships

28 April 2009

First DataBank (FDB) has today announced a number of new international partnerships, demonstrating the company’s rapid growth overseas and its dedication to reducing medication errors worldwide.

American Hospital, Dubai

FDB has signed a new contract with American Hospital in Dubai to integrate its clinical decision support within the hospital’s Meditech Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) system, to enable electronic prescribing.

American Hospital, part of the Almulla Group, is a state-of-the-art 143-bed, private, acute care hospital which provides healthcare to patients in the UAE and surrounding Gulf States. The hospital is currently constructing a new inpatient facility which will increase the number of patient beds to 360.

FDB will provide American Hospital’s Meditech HIT system with concise and relevant drug data, and patient specific clinical decision support at the point of care. When a clinician wishes to prescribe a medication, a range of checks will be provided against the patient’s electronic health record including drug-drug interactions, contraindications and precautions, therapeutic doubling and dose range check.

Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia

The medical services division of Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil refinery of Saudi Arabia, has renewed its contract with FDB for a further three years. The medical services division provides healthcare to employees and eligible dependents of Saudi Aramco through hospital and primary care facilities.

Total Health Information Systems, Malaysia

In the first partnership of its kind for FDB, Malaysian-based Total Health Information Systems will distribute and integrate FDB’s drug knowledge bases and clinical decision support for use in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare organisations in the region.

David Flavell, President, First DataBank International says of the partnerships: “International expansion is a key component of FDB’s strategy for growth in the coming years. These partnerships are further testament to our work to consolidate our position as global leader, and improve patient safety worldwide.”
